400 Small Block Swap - Page 6

(Please be patient, as there are ALOT of photos, tho I've divided amongst a number of pages)

First thing in the morning I head back out to Glenn's. Need another oil pan for the 400, as the one that came on the motor had some oil heater in it, and didn't really want to reuse that pan and was running low on funds, I dug through my grampa's garage and found the old oil pan from my ol' 305 which was in my 1979 Parisienne.

I was pretty upset at this point which was why there were no pictures taken and me undoing and reinstalling the pistons.

However, at this point, once I removed the pistons, I learnt the rods are actually curved abit, which was why it was difficult to spin the crank over. I ended up scouring a couple of the rod bearings and luckly enough, there were no marks on the crank. LUCKY BREAK!. Turned out I had an extra set of Rod Bearings, so not taking any chances, I replaced them all.

Here we are once again, after repositioning the pistons and reinstalling them.

Installed the CompCam Double Roller Timing Chain, of course making sure the cam wasn't 180 out :)

Now that everything seems to be assembly and in the right order, we now put on the oil pan.

Got the Heads back, had them cleaned, and drilled for bigger valves, and had them Ported and Gasket Matched. I had them drilled out for 2.02 & 1.60 valves.

Got the heads installed, and torqued down.

Here is my LEAST favorite part. This is something I had lotsa troubles with after redoing my 350. SETTING THE ROCKERS !!!
Glenn was nice enough to help me out here and guide me along.

The motor is pretty much all put together!
