400 Small Block Swap - Page 5

(Please be patient, as there are ALOT of photos, tho I've divided amongst a number of pages)

Now comes the times to setup the rings for the pistons. Here Glenn is showing me how to go about filing them to the proper measurements.

Here I am placing the ring in the cylinder, pushing it in flush with the piston and then measuring it.

Supper time !!! - Glenn was nice enough to let me stay for some burgers ...

Glenn is showing me here how to use a Ring Compressor and how to install the Piston.

One by one, I'm setting up the rings and then installing all the pistons.

Torqued them down one by one.

Pistons are now in.

Lubed up the cam and installed it.

At this point, we run into another problem. The crank is hard to turn over. I loosened all the rods and everything seems to spin just fine. I thought maybe I way over torqued them ... it could happen right ?!?!
So I go back, making sure I have the RIGHT torque setting. SAME THING !!!, hard to turn over. Remember here folks, I am a computer geek, not a mechanic!

At this point, I loosen everything and go back to hitting the books. As well I bring this to Glenn's attention and then it was discovered, I put the pistons in 180 out.

Good thing Glenn's garage is insulated, and being late at night, the next few words were very choice. Unbolted the rods, loosen the pressure on the crank and went home, I'll worry about this tomorrow.
