| 3" Exhaust |
Well, after dropping the 400 in, I noticed quite a difference already in performance. I put off getting a bigger exhaust system for the time being as I was running out of money. I was originally planning on going with a 2"1/2 FlowPro system, like my friend Shelly had on her Chevelle. Her Chevelle had a nice sound/rumble to it.
So after talking to alot of gearheads and a few exhaust shops, I decided I was gonna go with 3". One night while out at the cruisin' lots, my friend Kelly introduced me to Glenn Scott. Glenn had his own exhaust shop and has done work for alot of the muscle cars in the Winnipeg scene. He offered to do up a 3" exhaust system with FelPro Mufflers at a great deal. So we hooked up later that week and I had the exhaust installed.
Here are a few shots of the old 2" exhaust system my dad had put on back in 95.
I left the car with Glenn just before lunch. He gave me sometime to decide on what kind of system I wanted and what he could do. So I went with a 3" exhaust with 3" mufflers and I asked him to have it molded/bented up just like the existing system, and to have it dump out just after the back wheels.
Kelly and I then went out for Lunch at the mall and a few hours later, we stopped in the shop to see Glenn's progress. I was getting real excited, but yet I had this irry feeling happening.
Glenn also offered to weld up my subframe connectors to the front subframe too. SWEET!!. We went out again and a few more hours passed and Glenn called us, it was done.
So I fired up the car, (rUMblE)(RuMBle)(RumBLe) .... my first thought, it was loud, maybe too loud.... Kelly on the other hand had the biggest smile and was telling me how awesome it sounded, and that people will definitly know now, if not already, that I had done some work to the car.
So as the evening came, we headed out to our favorite cruisin' hangout spot where I parked the car. As my friends arrived and heard of my new exhaust, they wanted to hear me fire up the car. My friend Kyle would is very knowledgable with cars, had been bugging me all summer to hurry up and get the exhaust, cause it's holding back the motor. What did Kyle think of my new setup ?? 2 thumbs up !!!
After putting on the new system, I noticed a HUGE performance gain, of course if you look closely at the old system, you could see where the pressure was squeezing out of the welds. Also where the pipe came out of the mufflers to go up and over the axle, the bends on the old system I betcha weren't even 1"1/2 inch. The 3" system gave the motor a chance to breathe. Of course with the old system holding the motor back, I could hook nicely, now with the 3" installed, I just spin ... there is no hooking up .... damn! :)
So if you're needing any exhaust work done, call my buddy Glenn, and tell him Dave with the 73 Nova sent ya!! and that you saw this article on my website!!! ... A few of my friends are now considering a new system for their cars now ..... hehehe have I started something?
